What Do We Consider "Life Skills?"

K-12 Coaching

The Going Beyond Consulting K-12 program prepares kids for the real world with life skills of today and tomorrow. Life skills help us become more versatile and adaptable in life so we can succeed. Some kids today either haven’t learned, or struggle to master, these skills.  These life skills are as important as academic study. We incorporate them into the young person’s everyday academic development.

Life skills are a strong foundation for building the generation of tomorrow, empowering them to:

  • Become more balanced – mentally and emotionally
  • Develop confidence
  • Boost their self-esteem
  • Have a sense of passion and purpose

Phase one (First half of the year)

  • Mentors
  • Self-awareness
  • Decision making
  • Problem solving
  • Effective listening
  • Personal branding
  • Time management
  • Effective communication
  • Money management (basic)

Phase two (Second half of the year)

  • Public speaking
  • Boundaries
  • Social skills
  • Goal setting
  • Listening mindset
  • Routine management
  • Emotional quotient (EQ)
  • Adaptability quotient (AQ)

Effective youth leadership programs build on solid youth development principles. Research shows that youth development and leadership through coaching are important components of effective youth programming. Some areas we focus on are:

  • Attitude: self-belief, being engaged, stepping up
  • Discipline: accountability, focus, results-oriented
  • Character: integrity, kindness, confidence, positivity, optimism
  • Self-Awareness: emotional intelligence, perspective
  • Agility & Adaptability: proficiency, open-mindedness, decisiveness
  • Communication: relationship building, social skills, honesty & transparency, listening

Developing and practicing life skills can improve a child’s self-esteem, confidence, and social competence. Learning life skills also instills a sense of pride and accomplishment. Going Beyond Consulting helps young men and women develop these skills to make the most out of their future.

What is a Life Coach

My goal is to teach life skills that can be utilized daily. These life skills can help an individual reach equilibrium and regain control of their lives. It will help them to uncover the Truth behind the myths, so that they can live their best lives.

Many times, we find ourselves stuck in a mundane life and unclear how we arrived at an unhealthy destination. We are so busy with the hustle and bustle of life when things slow down we find ourselves feeling empty or unfulfilled. These feelings generally are the result of unresolved life griefs. My services will help you work through past and present challenges.

I am part advisor, part visionary, part cheerleader, as your coach it is my joy to help you gain more in personal development, self-discovery, clarity, balance, satisfaction, self-improvement, and success. I help my clients to align with their personal mission and vision and this will help them make better choices and live a more unique and fulfilled life.

Life coaching focuses on the here and now.  Unlike therapy you can go on for years (because it tends to focus on the past and/or why you’re feeling a certain way), life coaching often accomplishes that in a short amount of time. We start with where you are now and what you want – and work together to create that new life vision.

In life coaching, we start with the assumption that you are whole and complete – and that you have within you all the answers – even if you may not feel like it now. The life coaching work is to uncover those answers together. The good news is, you know it when you feel it – and we want to get to that place as soon as possible.

It’s kind of like having a best friend who sees the best in you and won’t let you be anything other than your best possible self. Nothing has to be terribly “wrong” to benefit! Even when things are going well, it’s often helpful to have an objective person in your corner to bounce ideas off of, touch base with and/or reaffirm that you’re moving in the right direction.
